a small update:
last week was a lot of time spent talking about logistics. had to be done. not my favorite part, but we got through it. this week we're getting into a bit more enjoyable conversations...talking a lot about the philosophy of the seed program. since we are the pilot program, everything is still in the process of creating this program - what it will look like, etc. i love that it is flexible, part of the reason i was attracted to it. makes me smirk when we talk about words for hours and hours - which word best represents what we are trying to say? haha...true mennonites spending too much time making sure we're politically correct about what we're saying and doing. a bit harsh, maybe. i'm not so uptight about it, i guess. of course, i'm not really uptight about anything so far. bit surprise, i know. i am grateful to be finally having good conversations with the group during our gathering time and such. feels good to be hearing from people about where we're all coming from, what we're expecting, etc. oh, and the one picture is of what we look like all afternoon...meeting in the mcc office, chatting over a few cups of coffee.
this weekend was nice - finally a bit of time to breath and do our own thing, relax a bit. on friday night the Angel family (where i am staying temporarily) had a house concert and invited a bunch of friends over to support a family friend who is going to school. it was nice to meet people and just relax and hang out. it was a great atmosphere...drinking colombian hot chocolate and listening to good, relaxing music. a few pictures up from friday. (haven't taken many pictures yet, so they're limited...others had my camera friday, so there are pictures of friday night.)
saturday morning, jordan and torin and i decided to find an open air market erin told us about...she gave me general instructions and we set off. we arrived where we thought it would be and searched for probably a half hour. i was thinking it was gonna be so big we wouldn't be able to miss it. i asked a few people on the street and they pointed us to what we finally found - a small indoor market where we got fresh vegetables and fruit for extremely cheap. awesome. HOWEVER, when we talked to erin later, realized we actually did not get to the one she had suggested. haha. next week i guess.
sunday i went to alejandro and leady (couple in our group from colombia) 's church. house church of not more than 20 i think. it was great. probably the place i'll attend while i'm in bogota. very laid back, almost sunday school like. fit me very well, so i was excited to find a community. i think almost all the group liked it, too...so we're doubling the population of the church, i guess. ha. i'll probably attend the main mennonite church, teusaquillo, also some. a lot of great people attend there and its good to make the connections with everyone.
the news is that friday we are able to move into the apt. looking forward to unpacking and finally feeling like i'm somewhere long-termish.
things are going well. its wonderful to hear from those of you who are emailing, commenting, facebooking, etc. technology is unbelievable. sorry this is shorter. i'll try to get something up again soon. my schedule is pretty busy, and with speaking a second language all day long, i'm finding that i need a bit more sleep than i'm used to. none-the-less, i think of you all often and miss you very much. keep me posted on what is going on with you. much love...
